Copacabana's Roman Catholic cathedral dedicated to the Virgin

Posted 1 year ago by munoz in response to avatar jose's question: What's the first thing to see when I step in Copacabana? I'll get there next week (give a different answer) .

When they say Copacabana, most people think of the beach in Rio de Janeiro, but I'm glad you know the difference. Go to the church on the shore of Lake Titicaca to see the Black Madonna, a dark wooden statue, carved in the 16th century. The Virgin is the patron of Bolivia and this Indian statue is believed to have made many miracles. The church is 400 years old and enables great views of Copacabana.
